When I was growing up, American Blacks who were not “ghetto” were sometimes accused of being “uppity niggers” and “Uncle Toms”. I was often told that I was not black enough in the way I looked, the way I dressed, the way I spoke, the way I interacted with others etc. These comments came from other Blacks, not Caucasians. I have – of course – experienced racism from the latter, but racial stereotyping and hate-envy from Blacks is no better than from non-Blacks.
This short clip by Margaret Cho has recalled many memories for me.
